Comfort

Photographer: Robert Wyatt

One of my favorite things to do when in a foreign city, is get lost in a little cafe. Not some exotic, "it" place, but a place where the locals frequent, day in and day out. Don't you love the familiarity of those places? Every city has them. What is your favorite thing to do in a foreign city?

Almost the same as you, I love a coffee bar, and I also love the local bookstore.

The little out of the way spot is usually where you get the best food and a real feel for the locals.

I like to sit in a park and just look at the people walking by and doing their day to day stuffs.
Markets also are one of my favourite place to "feel" the city, mostly in Europe, Asia or North Africa because sadly there aren't so much in North America.

Hold my daughter for the first, give her her first bottle and pack her things up to bring her home. *wink*.
I love to sample as many different and exotic foods as possible, next is to sit in a cafe and drink coffee and people watch.

People watching, while sipping my latte.
Chatting with those in my company about the place we are in.
I love discussing the history of a place!

I love great footwear, a map and a plan (a well researched list compiled prior to my leaving home of shops, cafes, bakery's and sights to see) ... and I walk, walk, walk. I love to explore on foot, with destinations in mind and who knows what treasures that I might stumble upon in my travels ... and always with my camera.

Great photo !

I like running around like a crazy person seeing everything. Food is a good way to people watch.

that is exactly what we do no matter where we are, not necessarily a foreign location but anywhere new. my husband has an uncanny ability for finding those average and everyday places that can feel like you can walk in and know it is a second home for many of the people there. perhaps it is an instinct born of his having lived in foreign countries, something i have not experienced. but i am always pleased with the choice. love the photo yoli!

Sit on a park bench with a book, taking turns between reading and watching people.

Walk, eat, visit churches, take pictures....not necessarily in that order.

I'm coming in late, and all my favorites have already been said! I agree with Juliette on the markets. Markets are always the best way to "get to the heart" of a place. I loved the markets more than anything when I lived in Mexico. Same in France. I am a walker too, and given the chance I will walk everywhere...even town to town if I can. And I'm with Mamacita on the churches too. You can't miss the churches. It's part of the experience. My favorite cafes are in France and Italy. I love a strong espresso and a citron pressé with a cube of sugar.

The way to my heart is through my stomach. I like to sample the local cuisine. I ask the locals (sort of like Rachel Ray) where the best restaurants are and then I try them out. I also ask what their favorite dish is.

Eat and people watch. So a cafe is perfect for me too.
