The Scent of a Woman

I was inspired by Relyn's beautiful post today on perfume. She was singing the praises of L’heure bleue by Guerlain. I love perfume, I never leave the house without it, just like my grandmother used to do. My fragrance of choice is horribly old fashioned, I love Miss Dior. I have others that I wear but I always go back to Miss Dior. What do you wear? Where does it take you?

Love your new header. As always.

I have a love/hate relationship with perfume. I love the idea of it but can't handle most perfumes in fact. So I end up with a lot of bottles that "seemed like a good idea", but then I do nothing but look at them.

I don't like the very feminine ones - I prefer masculine scents. In my twenties, I wore men's cologne exclusively. My all-time favorite scent is Hermés Eau d'Orange Verte, which is marketed as either men's or unisex. It makes me think of freshly-bathed men in rumpled white shirts heading out into the desert, of saddle soap and Land Rovers.

I also like soapy scents: Philosophy's Pure Grace is one I wear a lot. It just smells clean.

I have Pure Grace! Wonderful scent. I love your imagery, of men in white shirts in Land Rovers. I will transport mine to the jungles Africa though...sigh.

I love a scent called karma made by lush.com. This scent comes in soap, bath bubble bars, lotion, shampoo and perfume - for the layered scent effect. It's a spicy patchouli orange combo with lots of other natural essences. It's smells very strange in the beginning and then it becomes very quickly totally addictive. I love it. I too love the new banner. xo S.

I wear two. I love Bal De Versailles which is a very old lady scent. The longer it sits and yellows in a bottle, the better it is. It reminds me of my grandmother.

The other one I wear is the Elizabeth Arden Spiced Green Tea (not the normal green tea). It is exotic and warm and smells like indian food.

If you cut and paste (sorry Yoli, I am html challenged) it will take you to my current fave.

I do love Dior though, and Miss Dior is one of my favourites of all time. I love it. I wear it and so does my mother.
I adore perfumes, I can't pass a counter without buying.
xoxo

I used to wear Chanel 5 until I started working in the wine industry. Then I gave up perfume as it interfered with wine tastings. I'm no longer in the industry but I haven't gone back to perfume. Now I smell of whatever I'm cooking. Yesterday vanilla, today star anise.

I still go out and buy a bottle of Love's Baby Soft. It takes me back to being 15. I love the softness of it and it brings a smile to my face.

You would think with my post that I wore l'heure bleue. I don't. I wear DKNY's apple smelling one. The one in the green bottle. And, I wear Tea Rose. It's old fashioned, but I love it. I like single note perfumes and it smells just like a tea rose.

I wear Tryst. Love it.

Whenever I wear it, everyone wants to know what it is.

I used to buy and wear a lot of perfumes. Now that I work from home sadly I don't put as much as before. I like to change depending of the season. Stronger in the winter (my favs are Boucheron and Chanel 19, I feel sexy wearing them), a little bit lighter in mid season (Eau de Gingembre or Shiso from Roger & Gallet, I imaging myself somewhere in Asia) and even more for summer (Herba Fresca from Guerlin, Aroma Tonic from Lancôme to feel fresh and free).
Again I am a real Libra, cannot decide, so I have some bottles that I haven't touched for a while.

Yoji, thanks for visiting Asian Models Blog.

To answer your question, Aline Serpa is half-Japanese-half-Brazilian. She has a very versatile look because she looks positively Asian in the Spring 2008 YSL Ad.

I used to wear perfume religiously, not as much anymore. I ususally spritz with a vanilla body spray. But if I'm going out my scent is Obsession....it has been for 22 years. I hope they never stop making it. Maybe I should bank it!

I can't go out without earrings.

I love Chanel number 5, my first perfume given to me by my Grandma.
I love to spritz myself some mornings with my hubby's cologne, it makes me feel like he's hugging me all day...
Love the new header..

Anything french. Cartier, Coco Channel, Bouchuron and something delicious that sweet thing brought home from France years ago that I can't get in the states. I keep the bottle to remind me of him knowing that I would treassure it forever. Where does my parfume take me?! Erotica of course! This sight is rated, right?! lol.....

I have always worn Chanel No.5, for years and years, until just a couple of months ago.

I wandered into a little hippie store on Haight Street and made up two potions of scented oil: one is tuberose and nag champa, the other is amber and fig.

People ask me what I'm wearing and I'm so thrilled to say "it's my own personal blend."

Wearing perfume is a rare indulgence. I work outdoors and anything scented attracts all manner of unwelcome attention by insects, so the only time I ever wear anything other than soap and water is in the colder weather, after bugs are no longer an issue. Exclusively wore different men's colognes for years too! Years ago a dear friend introduced me to Paloma Picasso's line as well as Must de Cartier and Chanel. None of which I can afford, but I remember fondly. Other current favs include SHI by Alfred Sung, Sun Moon Stars, and my own eclectic mixes of cold pressed oils like bergamont, ylang ylang, lemon verbena, etc. I read an article stating 99.9% of men tested became aroused and interested when exposed to the smell of cinnamon so once the weather cools down...heh heh heh

Naughty girl, you are going to hit the cinnamon! I live in a hot humid cauldron. I still wear perfume and I swat at the bugs and mosquitos as I make my way through my garden and to my car. Go and buy that cinnamon girl.

Gillian, from Penhaligon, I wear Violeta. I love that scent.

All of you ladies have exquisite taste in frangrance. I have tried a lot of them. I will investigate Obcession and Hermés Eau d'Orange Verte. Oh yes, and also l'heure bleue, which started this whole discussion in the first place.

love, love the painting! you can learn so much about someone by their scent... i don't know what it is that i learn exactly :) i think very personal things draw us to particular scents. Now me i don't wear any perfume but i love wearing, and do this every day, Crabtree and Evelyn body creams. Right now the scent is lily of the valley but often it was gardenia which they discontinued.i love to go in the garden on a hot summer night just to smell the jasmine and alyssum. great question :)

I wear only one, and have been since I was 18. It is called Opium, and it is made by Yves Saint Laurent (not sure of the spelling). Funny thing, I don't even smell it on myself anymore, but other people notice it and say it smells wonderful on me.
Unfortunately, I have tried too many other perfumes that smelled great on other people but just horrible on me, so I stick with what works for me and no longer try other perfumes.

Yoli said...

Not everyone can wear Opium Viv, it is very powerful. You must have the chemistry that is just perfect for it. I tried once and it was a fiasco. I love it but it does not go with my body chemistry.
