Stranger in a Strange Land...

This is how I have been feeling lately. I thought I was in America, where freedom of expression and right of speech is accepted. Mind you, I did not say valued but accepted. However, lately, I feel like nothing makes sense. Where is the mad hatter when I need him? Tea anyone?

The world is a fucked up place right now... sorry, but I can't stand the racism coming from the McCain/Palin party. They call themselves christians by saying "pro-life, yet the adamantly support "pro-war". What the hell! Freaks! How in the name of g-d do they think they are any more superior. I'm sick of the bull shit talk of the republican party. Do something for once and I'm not talking dragging us into another senseless war. I do hope America gets it right this time.....

As a daughter of immigrants who immigrated herself, I can relate to the title of your post.
I hope Americans do not lose the freedoms they have fought so bravely for all these years.

I'm so guilty of being anti-free speech lately when people are saying things like "Obama is a muslim terrorist" and "Off with his head" and other nasty things. Its all very upsetting and while I do honestly believe in the right to free speech, I just want them all to be quiet! I think inciting racism, fanatacism and hate with "free speech" is a costly venture.

Some days are like that Yoli...are you sure you didn't swallow anything from a strangely labeled bottle???

Thank you so much for your kind words on my blog...so glad you stopped by for a visit. I'm intrigued by your fencing background....how old do you think a child should be to start lessons?? I have been thinking about getting my daughter into this sport...she is just 4 (almost!)

Dear Yoli;

I try to comfort myself with the historical perspective that the world has pretty much always been a dangerous place, with people in leadership roles who REALLY shouldn't be there. I really hope the US will do the right thing this time! We have our national elections tomorrow, so send us some positive vibes too!
Thanks for your visit to my blog. Nice to meet another middle aged discoverer of the joys of mothering wonders from China! Sarah (in Canada)

it hurts sometimes to even listen to the horrible lies and anger that are being spewed...it really does. i am sorry that you hurt, too.

as you know, there is an undercurrent of hatred that is surprising even the most jaded and cynical of us.

Where this may lead...well, I'm unsure, but yes, it ails me to hear it

I am an immigrant too...as are my daughters, this is their land as much as anyone elses. My job, is to try to make it better for them.

Sad that the voices of hatred are rising above the voices of reason

Dear Sweet Yoli-

Pretty sure you already know this but, I for one both value, accept and sincerely hope you make time to do something especially nice for yourself asap. You're a treasure. One insomniac to another I understand how the world can look and be a pretty bleak place, especially through the fog of lack of restorative sleep. As The Fisherman would say, "Don' let the bastards git ya down!"
