Where do you wake up in a dream?

I've been tormented with insomnia and wonderlust, the crazy kind that stays with you and whose voice echos loudly in your head when you are trying to pay attention to other people's sensible conversations. After suffering through several nights, I gave in, I took an Ambien. In the middle of the night I woke up but fell quickly back into the arms of Morpheus.

Forcing myself to wake up I realized, I was not in my bedroom. I was in my own bed, wearing my silly Teddy Bear Pajamas, yet I was not in my bedroom. I knew it had to be a dream but it was so real. The place was alien and familiar and I knew this place some how, and I loved it.

This is the place that my dreams pulled me into: PETRA

Petra is also one of the new wonders of the world.
The site remained unknown to the Western world until 1812, when it was discovered by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. It was famously described as "a rose-red city half as old as time" in a Newdigate prize-winning sonnet by John William Burgon. UNESCO has described it as "one of the most precious cultural properties of man's cultural heritage."[2] In 1985, Petra was designated a World Heritage Site.

I would love to see Petra. You always jog my memory about places that are very important....places I want to visit.

Unfortunately, I keep having the same dream nearly every night. And its a little closer to home. I dream that I have to go to the bathroom. Its urgent. I get up. I go to the toilet. I sit down. I feel an immense sense of relief.....and then I wake up in a panci with just enough time to get to the bathroom before I wet the bed!!!

that would be panic....not panci

this thing should have spell check!

Watch out for magic pills- they take away REM sleep sometimes and we need that to function.

Petra would be very nice this week. Let's go.

Sleep? What's sleep?

Interesting that you would mention Petra. When DH and I were discussing the things that we would likely /not/ do once #3 came home, I mentioned extensive world travel. "It's OK," said I, "Really the only thing I'd like to see before I die is Petra."

Petra is beautiful. I'd love to see it someday. I like Petra for a name too. I wish you peaceful sleep!

Sorry about the insomnia, I hope it gets better.

I wish I had dreams. Since I have sleep apnia I wake up every few hours and never get enough restorative sleep. Sometimes I just lay in bed and daydream about what I would dream about if only I would dream!

That's amazing. Have you noticed if what you eat or drink right before bed impacts your dreaming? I noticed that if I drink too much Coca-Cola right before bed I have terrible nightmares.

Petra is even more fantastical than can be imagined in real life......!

PS For the first time, I took an ambien when I was in Washington and it had a profound affect on me. I literally felt terrible for 24 hours and was having trouble balancing. My host took an ambien and fell asleep in his plate and doesn't remember his partner getting him up the stairs. I think it is a seriously dangerous drug!

Oh how I wish I had a sexy exotic life Kerri.

Rony I will take you up on it so don't temp me.

Myriam, I know about Ambien, I don't use it often but it was prescribed due to my severe insomnia. Wow, you have been to Petra, I imagine it is even more breath taking than in my dreams.

Although insomnia is no fun, Petra is a beautiful place to dream in. I've had very few dreams lately, and the last one included (gulp) Sarah Palin - yes, a true nightmare.

Petra would have been much nicer :)

I have had the same experience and it is terrifying and alluring at the same time.

Interesting place. I knew nothing about it.

Greetings from London.

A city carved from living stone: what better place is there to pull your self out of a dream? I wake up ever in my childhood bedroom, where the window is always open and a storm has passed, leaving the air clear and cold, and the tossed treetops beckoning.
You paid me the kindness of visiting my blog once. What a delight to discover you are a fellow insomniac and the author of such enjoyable musings.

Not sleeping is awful. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

Yoli dear,
How about taking tylenol PM? That works super well.

Yes, I have been to Petra and have spent a fair amount of time in Jordan. Petra is esp nice because like Angkor Wat (which is also mesmerizing) you walk it and it keeps revealing itself to you.

PS Thank you for the Egypt bday card:)

Thank you Maryam, I will try it!

Ren, "angels sing thee to thy rest?" Girl, I am not a dying Hamlet...LOL.
