Insomnia

Insomnia is a gross feeder. It will nourish itself on any kind of thinking, including thinking about not thinking. ~Clifton Fadiman
The bed is a bundle of paradoxes: we go to it with reluctance, yet we quit it with regret; we make up our minds every night to leave it early, but we make up our bodies every morning to keep it late. ~Charles Caleb Colton

Now, blessings light on him that first invented sleep! It covers a man all over, thoughts and all, like a cloak; it is meat for the hungry, drink for the thirsty, heat for the cold, and cold for the hot. It is the current coin that purchases all the pleasures of the world cheap, and the balance that sets the king and the shepherd, the fool and the wise man, even. ~Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote, 1605

I see insomnia as an attempt by nature to prevent you from finding out what the real you is. If we are at our most defenceless and helpless when we sleep, at the mercy of our subconscious mind, do we really want to know? Yes, you bet, we do. Insomnia is the deterrent. Many thanks for such a fantastic post.

Greetings from London.

Interesting topic today. I was stuck awake last night and nothing could bring me down.

Couldn't sleep again, huh?

As one who has never had sleep problems, it's hard for me to imagine what it's like. There must be a surreal quality about being awake when the world is asleep. But...you have so many more creative hours in the day! I envy you that quiet thinking time.
