"A living planet is a much more complex metaphor for deity than just a bigger father with a bigger fist. If an omniscient, all-powerful Dad ignores your prayers, it's taken personally. Hear only silence long enough, and you start wondering about his power. His fairness. His very existence. But if a world mother doesn't reply, Her excuse is simple. She never claimed conceited omnipotence. She has countless others clinging to her apron strings, including myriad species unable to speak for themselves. To Her elder offspring She says - go raid the fridge. Go play outside. Go get a job. Or, better yet, lend me a hand. I have no time for idle whining." ~David Brin

"There is hope if people will begin to awaken that spiritual part of themselves, that heartfelt knowledge that we are caretakers of this planet." ~Brooke Medicine Eagle

"Take nothing but pictures.
Leave nothing but footprints.
Kill nothing but time."
~Motto of the Baltimore Grotto, a caving society

It is so fitting that today is Earth Day and my Dad's birthday. For no one I know, loves nature more and is more caring of the earth than my father. My love for the planet and its animals, I learned from him. My hope is that we learn the value of what we have before it is too late. Our children deserve that we leave it a better place.

Congratulations to your Dad! And I could not agree more. I love just love the first quote! I read it several times. Thank you. You are so so inspiring! (as an old Muslim saying goes "live upon this earth like a man walking in the desert lifting as little sand as possible" --yes, humility and respect).

Yes, Yoli, we all should do a better job there to leave a better place for our children to live. I learn a lot from you, dear Yoli.

Have you got the parcel?
Happy Easter:)

Beautiful thoughts, words and photos. A fitting tribute to Earth Day....and also to a Father who taught a daughter so much - and who is also teaching him as well.

Hugs,

♥ Robin ♥

In this age of concrete jungles and urban sprawls, every little bit of green is precious. How often do we pause and reflect on the consequences of our actions? How much we are borrowing from our children's future?
