I was thinking about the objects we re-use. I have two glass jars of Martinelli's Apple Juice where I keep quarters in. I have cans of Cafe Bustelo that hold plants. I have a pill bottle that I use for keeping change in my car. I save the milk jugs and clean them so that I can store water in them during hurricane season. Do any of you do this?

I could be much better about recycling a lot of things, I admit it. I am getting better. I don't buy much milk, but I re-use my water. I will buy a gallon of spring water and just re-use it for 3-5 months (washing between) and fill with tap water. Funny thing is I have come to prefer tap water over bottled, and now since we know it's better for us than filtered, I feel good about drinking it. I'm still bad about buying bottled water for "on the go" because on this new drug I am CONSTANTLY drinking water and MUST have it whenever I go anywhere. I need to go and buy a few "to go" re-usable capped cups for myself. Should do that today in fact. :)
I like your plants very much!
But of course! And here are some other wonderful ways to reuse:
-cigar boxes make wonderful jewelry or stationary boxes
-containers with plastic lids (like Pringles) make great pencil holders, or piggy banks
-glass or plastic jars with twistable lids (like mayo jars) make great containers to hold rice, pasta, spices, etc. We use ours to hold homemade chimichurri!
I love your use of coffee tins as planters, what a great idea! I will copy that one!
I use baby formula containers to hold my pens. I wrap them in some pretty paper or fabric.
I have tea jugs full of water, I re-use all the plastic bags I get from the store when I'm too distracted to remember my cloth ones, I re-use or recycle all glass containers, depending on how the lid fits, I keep all plastic tubs/containers for painting or other projects in the garage...to name a few. I like the colorful coffee cans!
Kris, I also drink tap water. We do not drink bottled water unless we are traveling.
Vivian those ideas of yours are great. Thank you for passing them along.
Nic, I would love to see a picture of your pen holders. I know you are very creative and can make a lot of pretty stuff.
Christie, thanks for the ideas. I also reuse the plastic bags all the time. I like the idea of the tea jugs, I can put a plant in there too.
Yes, me, too! Especially if it's an extra cute container! ;)
Yes, recycling is a big deal in my world! Thanks for your messages today and for the invitation to Red Room. I signed up. xoxox
We try to reuse, recycle as much as we can.
We invested in a fridge with filter for water and drink from there. No plastic bottles. Each of us has 1 or 2 metallic bottles we use all the time when out.
No more plastic bags, I always have my bins and big Cost*co reusable bags in my trunk when shopping.
I keep nice glass jars to put my home-made jam in or to decorate and offer full of candies or different kind of nuts for Holidays.
I keep nice carton boxes for when I have to send parcels in France and even reuse the inside of the bubble mailers to wrap breakable items.
Also I plan to start a little veggies garden in my back yard next year and will be using the compost for that.
We need to do ourselves what governments don't push us to do to preserve the earth for our kids.
YES!!! I have a silly love for
OLIVE cans ~ and plant herbs in
them in my kitchen:)
i will post a photo now come
to think of it:)
oh..yes..i keep all the paper packaging and make notebooks with them..Marmelade jars to put buttons and beads..Fruit juice glass bottles to put flowers in...
Yup, I have got countless bottles and jars that get re-used to put flowers and plants in. My children also recycle (far too many sometimes) old newspapers and cardboard boxes.
Greeitngs from London.
Oh yes, I reuse all sorts of things, but my favorite are canning jars for odds and ends.
I love Bonne Maman perserve jars... I keep them and use them for homemade salsa, dressing, etc... and they're CUTE! Another plus would be that the labels come off easily!
Bonne Maman perserve jars are the best!!!
One of my all time favorite recycled things are quart sized Bell canning jars - previously used to store fresh milk from my cow Margie - now that she's dry and no longer milking I use the jars to hold my morning coffee/tea. They're also great to hold pens, change and assorted farm odds and ends.
