Why does anyone stay in an unhappy relationship? Because people do. They do it all the time. And the truth is, when you’re in it, when you’re up to your neck in the everyday part of life with another human being, sometimes you don’t exactly notice how bad things really are. It’s not always as apparent as it would seem. Unhappiness, when it involves another person, can be like that line from The Sun Also Rises about going bankrupt, how it happens two ways: gradually, and then suddenly.

Oh... I think this one hits home for too many to comment. But, fab post and good things to ponder. I am brave enough to leave a comment. Not brave enough to bear much more. Sometimes, it is what it is. And, you have to make tough choices. At least when kids are involved. No kids, a whole different ballgame. And, I'm not talking tee ball. And, be careful of casting a stone...

I may have to borrow this one day for my blog. I don't blog a lot about my recent divorce but this quote so sums up the demise of my marriage...gradual yet sudden. I know I am in a whole new place and a new beginning yet it is still hard. Thanks for sharing. As always, you make me think hmmm....

Good post. My parents stayed together until it was practically impossible to tell when they were arguing or laughing in unison(hardly ever). Your quote sums up the pain one feels when one is so young.

Many thanks.

Greetings from London.

So many of our choices are related to our upbringing. My parents had a terrible, agonizingly long relationship that finally ended in divorce when I was in college. I too stayed too long in a bad relationship and it took years of therapy with a great therapist to catapult me out of that realm. I am happy to report that I have a wonderful husband who has given me two great children.

It takes a lot of courage, honesty and hard work to go into therapy but the rewards are huge.
